The
senate bill #475 "Public Dam Rehabilitation Project
Bond Act" authorizes bonds for $90,000,000 to use as
matching fund grants to counties and muninciple
governments to help with the cost of repairing and
maintaining dams accross the state of NJ.The Assembly
is also sponsoring a similar bill #A1695,with the
help of these bills we could finally get things
started on this growing problem of dam safety in our
state.
The
Senate Environment Committee will vote on this bill
June 7th I believe and I don't have the info on the
assembly vote for sure but I think it's the same
day.It is very important that we all try to support
these bills because there are 361 dams in the state
that are in need of repair, and I'm sure there is a
dam in almost every county in the state, that needs or
will need repairs. This is one of the ways to help
local taxpayers offset the cost while insuring public
safety. Please try to contact as many senators and as
many assemblyman as possibly and ask them to
cosponsor these bills, and it will definately help to
press the governor also.
